After a three-year wait, the E.A. Ledgister Trophy has returned to its birthplace as B.B. Coke High emerged victorious in the RLJ National U19 High School 9s tournament. The tournament was played on Friday, January 31, 2025, with the host school securing all available titles.
The competition featured seven male and three female high school teams vying for the championship. B.B. Coke's Spitfire male team dominated the preliminary round, securing victories over Enid Bennett High, Spanish Town High, and St. George’s College to advance to the semifinals.
In the semifinals, B.B. Coke defeated Calabar High, marking the first time in eight years that a Spitfire team had eliminated Calabar in the knockout stage. Their opponents in the final, Jose Marti Technical High, had previously bested Spanish Town High in the other semifinal match.

The championship match remained deadlocked at 8-8 after regulation time and 18 minutes of additional play, leading to a sudden death phase. With neither team scoring in the first five minutes, the contest was ultimately decided by a drop-kick shootout. B.B. Coke’s captain, Tyrone Davidson, along with tournament MVP Richard Glennie and prop Kaje Witter, converted their final three attempts to secure the title.
Meanwhile, the B.B. Coke Spitfire Ladies reaffirmed their dominance by retaining the Nassandra Miller Trophy. They defeated Jose Marti Technical and Norman Manley High, winning the 9s Championship for the third consecutive year.
