File: Duhaney Park Firestorms
The National Division 2 got swinging at the Mona Bowl with the inaugural carnival round on Saturday, December 9. The competition traditionally allows teams to achieve different aims, wheter it's colleges who use it to prepare for the Intercollegiate season or community clubs exposing their younger and less expereinced players to more rugby league, or senior players using it to keep sharp, it has traditionally produced interesting match ups, unearthed talent and reinvigorate careers.
It was a fantastic day of rugby league that saw 8 clubs descend at the famed Bowl to jostle for leading positions in their respective groups and set the pace for the quarter finals in January.
In Group 1, Mona Pelicans, Duhaney Firestorm and Liguanea Dragons all ended the day on 3 points. Pelicans and Dragons played only one of thier scheduled two games each as their calsh with Dragons postponed. Firestorms ended with a 1-1 record, Meanwhile, St Bess Sledgehammers, with a very young squad ended 0-2.
In group 2, Washington Bulls ended on 6 points after two wins, St Cagtherine OB Thundercats and West Kingston Knights were 1-1, whilsg Cedar Grove Cyclones lost both encounters.
There were plenty younger players on show for all teams and it is apparent many programs are in another cycle of rebuilding.
