Red Sharks Women Are 2024 WNCC Champions



Duhaney Park Red Sharks Women -2024 WNCC Champions

 

Duhaney Park Red Sharks retained the Rugby League Jamaica Women National Club Championship (WNCC)with a comfortable 24-6 win over Washington Blvd Bulls last Saturday at Mona Bowl, in Kingston. In total, four teams participated in the 13-a-side competition, the other two being St Bess Sledgehammers and the Jamaica Defence Force. All teams faced each other in round robin action and then the top two clashed in the championship game.

 

Sherine Johnson was the standout player in the finals, bagging 12 points courtesy of 3 tries for the winners.  Her teammate Shanique Smith was also exceptional, her 4 goals and a try also equaling 12 points. For the Bulls, Brianna Medley responded with a try, whilst Ameir Kinlocke kicked a goal.

 

In the round robin stages of the competition the full results were: Red Sharks 14 JDF 0, Bulls 18 Sledgehammers 14, JDF 10 Sledgehammers 0, Red Sharks 22 Bulls 4, Red Sharks 15 Sledgehammers 0, Bulls 8 JDF 6.

 

Winning Head Coach Jade Harrison commented, “The tournament was excellent, we were short on players, but very determined, gritty and hardworking throughout. Captain Shanique Smith and senior player Sherine Johnson really led from the front with their attitude and game play, we didn’t have a lot of expectations and just wanted to do our best, it the end, it was good enough for victory and we are happy.”
