The flagship expansion competition in Jamaica got underway on Saturday October 26th with 7 teams competing for the honours of Division 2 champions. The Grand Finals has slated for December 14.
As customary, teams have been placed in two groups. In Group A, Caribbean Maritime University Spartans, Mona Pelicans and St Bess Sledgehammers are joined by the new look Duhaney Park Firestorm.
In Group B, Cedar Grove Cyclones, Kingston Central Hounds and Portmore Eliminators are the competing teams after the 11th hour withdrawal of Old Harbour Knights from the competition.
Results from Saturday saw Mona Pelicans tag St, Bess Sledgehammers 24-12 at the BB Coke High School in St. Elizabeth. Mona was led by Akeem Kitson and Andrew Dixon with both scored 2 tries, while support came from Jordan Maitland and O’Dayne Edwards, each with one try. The Sledgehammers tries came from Showayne Collins, Jevaughn Thomas and former national player Kennardo Morgan.
Other results saw Duhaney Park upset defending champions CMU Spartans 16-4 and Cedar Grove Grove Cyclones dispatch Portmore Eliminators 42-2.
Commenting on the prospect of the completion, JRLA Vice Chairman, Adrian Hall said:

In 2018 we saw Jowayne Forbes and Jevaughn Thomas excel for St. Bess both earned full scholarships to university. It was a similar story for Anthony Findlay-Hounds and Maurice Morant from the Cyclone. We expect a tough contest and look forward to some new stars of our game to emerging in this year’s competition. The competition continues on Nov 2 with two matches slated for The Cedar Grove Academy Field. Duhaney Park Firestorm takes on Mona Pelicans at 2:30pm followed by Cedar Grove Cyclones up against Kingston Central Hounds at 4:00pm. The third match of the day will see St. Bess Sledgehammers take on CMU Spartans at 3pm at the BB Coke High school football field.
