Thundercats Crowned Rugby League Jamaica 2024 Division 2 Champions

Thundercats and Firestorm

Rugby League Jamaica successfully concluded its 10th National Division 2 competition last Saturday at the UWI Mona Bowl. The five-team competition culminated in a thrilling final, with defending champions Duhaney Park Firestorms taking on first-time finalists St. Catherine Old Boys Thundercats. The Thundercats earned their spot in the final by defeating the Washington Bulls 24-16 in the semi-finals, while the Firestorms overcame the Spanish Town Vikings 28-14.

The final began with an explosive start from the Thundercats. Prop Joseph Daley opened the scoring, and national center Tah-Jay Lynch doubled their lead to eight points with a try at the half-hour mark. Just before halftime, the Firestorms responded with a well-executed play that saw Shaquiel Pollack  score the first of his two tries, narrowing the deficit.

In the second half, the Firestorms came out strong and leveled the score at 8-8 when Pollack crossed the try line again. However, the Thundercats maintained their composure and stuck to their attacking strategy. They secured two additional tries through Ahmeeigkee Miller and Brandon Barrett, clinching the victory and the Division 2 title.

Captain Lynch

Commenting on his team’s achievement, Thundercats captain and finals MVP Tah-Jay Lynch expressed his pride in their performance. “We are elated to have won the title. Our potential became more apparent as we played each game. We had playmakers who efficiently managed our game plan, which gave us confidence and helped us dominate the finals. We thank Rugby League Jamaica for the opportunity to continue the development of our team,” said Lynch.
