In the recently concluded Americas Women World Cup Qualifiers, Jamaica Women Reggae Warriors lost to the USA Hawks at the semi-final sate (0-44). The match was played at the University of North Florida rugby field in Jacksonville, on Wednesday, November 6.
Jamaica had a promising start and was competitive in the initial stages, holding the home team scoreless for the initial 15 minutes. However, once the USA scored their first points, the Reggae Warriors allowed another four scores before half time which effectivelhy ended any chance of a comeback. An improved defensive effort in the second half saw the team concede only 3 tries.
Jamaica women's head coach, Andrew Dixon, said: “The result was not what we expected and we have to go back to the drawing board. It’s a young team and there is improvement from last year where we started from but there is more to add and work on, we are coming back.”
USA went on to face Canada Ravens in the finals with the Canadians copping the win and earning the right to represent the Americas in the 2025 World Series which leads to qualification for the Women’s RL World Cup in 2026.
